Although Japanese children’s stories are not updated every day like the news, they are a good way for beginning Japanese to practice reading. There are books with lots of reading exercises, workbooks that accompany lessons, sites like JapanesePod101 that offer texts that accompany their audio lessons, Japanese websites for children, Japanese blogs that use simple Japanese, and of course much more. Although I explained at the beginning that beginners have little practice reading Japanese, I hope you have a sense that there are opportunities for you. Most of the work is done for you, which can be good or bad, but it is certainly an instructive way to navigate Japanese stories while practicing reading. Of course, there are many resources available to help advanced and intermediate Japanese students practice reading. Manga is another way to practice reading in Japanese. However, it is difficult for beginners to find Japanese reading materials appropriate to your level. It also includes pictures to help you understand the context, which will help you better understand how words and grammar make up the Japanese language. If you do this, you will certainly improve your Japanese reading skills.
